In 1974, Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker launched The PTL Club. The television ministry grew rapidly and attracted a large national audience.

Bakker expanded his ministry beyond television. He helped develop Heritage USA, a large Christian retreat and theme-park complex in South Carolina.
