WHAT HAPPENED
Tesla revealed the second-generation Roadster on Oct. 15, 2026. It drove up a ramp, flipped in midair and landed on its wheels — then jumped a whole line of parked Teslas.

WHERE
The reveal was livestreamed from SpaceX’s rocket development facility in McGregor, Texas — nine years after the first Roadster prototype was shown.

HOW IT WORKS
Nothing burns. The car stores 600 liters of compressed air in rocket-grade carbon fiber tanks and blasts it through nozzles. Huge thrust, for about a second. Enough for a flip — not for crossing town.
THE CATCH
Performance ($50,000 reservation): no thrusters at all.
Thrust ($250,000): rear thrusters for acceleration.
Rocket: 10 thrusters, single seat, full flight system — and invite only.
THE NUMBERS
Top speed above 230 mph. About 300 miles of range on all three trims. Tesla demonstrated the sub-one-second run at the event. No final price has been announced.
IN HIS WORDS
Musk said Tesla would “aspire not to kill anyone in this car,” that it may not be legal everywhere, and that the demo would be exciting “whether it works or not.”

THE LEGAL PROBLEM
Anything over 250 pounds that leaves the ground is an aircraft under FAA rules. There is no FAA type certification for a Tesla Roadster in public records. Experts estimate approval would take a year at minimum.
THE ENGINEERING PROBLEM
Crash structure, airbags, bumpers, a big battery — everything that makes a car road-legal is what you strip out of an aircraft. No one has solved that in a century of trying.
FACT CHECK
Fake Tesla videos have circulated all year, so many people assumed this was another. The Oct. 15 event was real and covered by major press — though some argue the flight footage was pre-recorded.

BEFORE YOU RESERVE
Tesla revealed this car in 2017, took $50,000 deposits, and promised deliveries in 2020. It is now 2026. The new date is 2028. Read the refund terms closely before transferring anything.
