US President Joe Biden on Sunday, July 21, announced his decision to withdraw from the electoral race.
Following his exit, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the new nominee.
Former US President Barack Obama responded to Biden's decision with a 542-word statement, in which he praised Biden's performance in the White House but stopped short of endorsing Kamala Harris.
In contrast, former President Bill Clinton and his family have openly declared their support for Kamala Harris.
As the Democratic Party considers its options, here are the likely candidates from swing states if Kamala Harris is not endorsed as the party's electoral candidate:
Raphael Warnock (Senator) State: Georgia Status: Hasn't endorsed Kamala Harris
Gretchen Whitmer (Governor) State: Michigan Status: Hasn't endorsed Kamala Harris
Mark Kelly (Senator) State: Arizona Status: Endorsed Kamala Harris
Roy Cooper (Governor) State: North Carolina Status: Endorsed Kamala Harris
Josh Shapiro (Governor) State: Pennsylvania Status: Endorsed Kamala Harris
